Summer Internship Adventures

As I packed the vehicle and saw my childhood home grow smaller in the rearview window, I could feel that I was on one of my greatest adventures of my life. Kansas has been my home for all of my life, the longest I lived out of my hometown was during my first year of grad school. Even then I was still in Kansas, just across the state.

After a lot of rejection, I finally was placed in my internship at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. It was a breath of relief to finally be placed, but an additional stressor of moving across the United States. Packing was already accomplished since I had to move out of my apartment in Hays Kansas.

After traveling four approximately 13 hours, my mom, her dog, and I made it to Atlanta Georgia. We decided to stay here for two nights in order to take in the sites. A long-time item on my bucket list was visiting the Georgia Aquarium and seeing the Whale Sharks.

The site of these four magnificent creatures is definitely something everyone needs to see. We sat there for a while taking in the sites of these whale sharks. We even got to experience a whale shark feeding, which having seen the behind the scenes of animal feedings before, this is very complicated.

We left Atlanta in the early morning and made it to our final destination, Bluffton South Carolina. Already in two days I have seen huge differences between home and here. One huge difference is the humidity. Here in Bluffton I am 10 miles out from Head Hilton Island, where there is plentiful of activities to do from the beach to shopping, to deep sea fishing. These and more are activities that I would love to do over the summer, along with my internship.

I have a lot that I want to accomplish over the summer. These range from items in my internship that align with the NASPA/ACPA Competencies, to personal goals. I have made a checklist of items that I want to accomplish over the summer.
