While 2016 has started I was lucky enough to celebrate another birthday this weekend. In looking back at what this year, I am thankful for so many things. Since I am 15 hours away from home this year, I am celebrating my birthday differently. Most years I am able to celebrate my birthday with my friends and family. This year I am away from home and I am celebrating with all the new friends that I have made while being up here in North Dakota.
Not seeing your family as frequently or on a daily bases is a new experience for me. This experience has helped me grow as an adult in realizing that my family is not always going to be physically there when I need them. It is good to know through the distance they are providing as much support as they can. They are always there for me in my time of need. Even though they are not here with me physically, they are still making sure I am doing well and that I have a great birthday.
Something else that is making my birthday extra special is all of the new people that I have met this year working for UND. I am so grateful for all the friends that I have made while being up here. They help me in so many ways and I am so grateful for that. It has been a good experience meeting some of my friends up here and being able to have people to connect with. As I am away from home they are making me feel like I am right at home!
