Getting out of your comfort zone can mean a lot of different things. For me recently, it meant seeing the new Star Wars movie. I have never seen any of the Star Wars movies. Anyone else in the same boat as me? By the time the movie came out, I was a little sick of the hype around it. I knew my partner wanted to see it though, so I thought, hey, why not. He filled me in on as many details as he could and I tried to follow along as he gave me a quick briefing of the characters on the way to the movie. I had also never been to a midnight premiere and so, Star Wars it was. My first midnight premiere.
I expected the craziness of a midnight premier to be like I’ve seen on TV and the movies. Long lines, big groups of people, costumes….it wasn’t like that at all. Actually, it was pretty anticlimactic, as far as how I expected a premiere to be. Calm, we went right to our seats, and the movie started. No cool outfits or groups of people waiting outside.
I enjoyed the movie and the experience of seeing something totally new. Do I have as many amazing and detailed things to say as someone who has seen the Star Wars movies before? Not really. Did I stay awake for the whole thing? Mostly. (Hey, it was late!) Did I see it more than once? Nope, once was enough.
I’m glad I went. I think I need to see more movies like Star Wars. I think I need to jump on more bandwagons that are outside of my normal realm of interests. We are always learning and always growing and need to keep seeking out opportunities to try new things and sometimes, that means, going to a Star Wars premiere.
