We All Need a Cheerleader

by Olivia Barker

One of the most amazing women in my life is someone who is a straight shooter who has challenged me and supported me in every single thing I’ve done.

I was a junior when I went through recruitment and my place in Alpha Delta Pi was part of a plan much bigger than me. Because I was older, I knew I didn't have time to waste and started in a leadership position right away and that's when I met the chapter advisor for my sorority, Megan. Megan was tough but fair, challenging but supportive and someone you just wanted to spend time with. As an executive officer, I had the chance to get to know Megan on a deeper level and it was amazing how much she dedicated to my chapter, to our team and to my development.

If you've been following my blog for the past year, you know I am constantly working on my confidence and trying to find my place in the world. My confidence has been a little shaky with my new role and still trying to understand what my impact can be on my campus and there was Megan...reminding me to stay positive and to be true to myself. She's always been in my corner, even almost 10 years later. Her confidence in me and what I'm able to do makes me want to change the world just so I can prove her right! Megan is someone whose leadership and support has meant more to me than she will ever know. She makes the best strawberry cakes, has the heart of an angel and is someone who has inspired me to keep fighting to become the woman I am today.

So here is a big thanks to you, Megan, for loving, supporting, guiding and encouraging me. I haven't always deserve, but your kind words and unwavering faith in me has given me strength when I was ready to quit, courage when I was afraid and faith in myself to do my best always. You are a beautiful example of sisterhood and I'm a better person for knowing you!
