It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

By Susan Mathieson

One perk of working in Student Affairs is the time you get off around the holidays. For me this meant getting to spend two weeks visiting the friends and family that I haven’t seen in over 6 months. If you read my last post, I was overwhelmed with trying to schedule time to see everyone I could in the small amount of time I had back home. Somehow, someway – it all worked out and I even had time to relax and binge on Netflix for a few days.

I will admit, I owe the fact that I took the time to relax to getting the flu, which forced me to stay in bed and watch Netflix. This may sound silly, but getting the flu may have been one of the best things to happen to me while on vacation. If I wasn’t forced to relax, I don’t think I would have. And if I didn’t relax, I would have inevitably started out the spring semester still feeling exhausted. Instead, I was able to enjoy the time I had, take a break from answering emails and creating resources for students.

I was also able to recover just in time for New Years Day, which if you’re from the Philadelphia area that only means one thing. The Mummers Parade. I was so glad I was able to kick off the 2015 year with friends, in my favorite city, for one of the quirky and amazing Philadelphia traditions!
