Spring is coming in hot!

by Hollie Daniels

I’m in a little bit of shock that it’s already the end of October and that I’m graduating in just a little over 7 months. Spring will also mark the second semester in my Graduate Assistantship, which I just started in August. Though I’ve spent such a short time in this office, I can certainly say that this GA is a better fit for me than the one that I was in last year. I’ve been able to talk with my supervisor about things that are important to me such as assessment, event planning, professional development, etc. She is able to help me seek out opportunities because she understands my interests and keeps my goal in mind: to begin my career in a position that makes me happy.

As this semester’s peak has come and now gone, I know that next semester is quickly approaching. I’m trying to brace myself for the whirlwind that will be the job hunt, but I can’t help but feel a little sad that my time with my classmates, professors, supervisors, and colleagues is coming to an end in such a short amount of time. I’m in a little bit of denial, but I know that the connections that I’ve built during my time here at the University of Florida will last forever.

As I prepare for spring, I’m trying to update my resume, make sure my LinkedIn is on point, staying on top of the latest news in higher education, all while trying to stay balanced. I’m encouraging my friends to stay calm and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by all of the support that my cohort has been giving to one another as next semester looms.
