I’ll Be Here By The Ocean

By Christine Pitts
The picture above is of my home - no, really. I grew up in Brick, NJ and I use to ride my bike to this beach every single day in the summer. When I got a job it was anytime I could get there, even if it was for a couple of hours. It is my happy place. The place I turn in good times and bad times. A place to think, relax, or recharge.

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, as we grow up we move – on, away, forward. Graduate school was a move, maybe not exactly physically, but it was a shift in priorities. Being a student affairs graduate student seems to take up a lot of time. Between internships, graduate assistantship, coursework, another job and other obligations it can be hard to find the time to relax and enjoy life.

It is so important for your physically, and mental, well-being to find the time to recharge. This year, as an SA Grad I found that the summer can provide the perfect opportunity to de-stress and recharge. The academic year is crazy and, honestly, after the winter we went through here on the east coast I hope I never see snow again for a very long time. So, sitting on the beach and reading a good book is the closest to heaven I will get to for the next few weeks until I kick it into high gear for my final year as an SA Grad.

I hope you all are having an enjoyable summer. I hope you take the time this August to visit your happy place and recharge. The academic year is upon us, but we so deserve a little break!

Feel free to tweet me your happy place! I would love to see where everyone else enjoys going. @cpitts_
