Homecomings are Fantastic

By Eric Mason

Homecomings are fantastic. I’m not talking about awkward high school dances that few alumni ever attend, but visiting some family and friends I had not seen since moving to Nevada in January. With a cousin’s wedding and a few birthdays, I was very ready to be home for the first time since March. Seeing old friends start jobs and moving my twin brother to St. Louis for dental school truly marked the end of an age of innocence. Now we have to be productive members of society.

Student affairs is a transient field. Two years ago, I never thought I would be living in Las Vegas. Remember where you’re from and where you’re going. Home may change, but it is always humbling and inspiring to come back. Innocence and the college life style are overrated. We must capitalize upon the increasing potential we have built until this point. I will always look back fondly on my years at Bradley. My life is just beginning. As Dr. Seuss once said, “Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way.”
