I’ve officially lived in Houston for 12 days! I am finally
starting to feel like myself and not like a visitor in my apartment. As
mentioned in last week’s post, I am completely unpacked and my art is
already on the wall, but my apartment still wasn’t feeling like home. Today, I
was able to put some final touches on my apartment that really made it feel
like home. I know it seems silly, but I just can’t be my best self if I am not
feeling comfortable in my surroundings (no worries, Macon settled in just
fine). I am the person who unpacks her suitcase at a hotel, who can’t stand a
messy house and who puts everything in it’s rightful place before I can sleep
well at night. So now that I am feeling comfortable in my apartment, I am ready
to get settled at work too!
My office space wasn’t ready when I got to Rice, so I have
been sharing an office with my new supervisor all week. I am actually really
grateful for our close time this week because we’ve had the opportunity to
connect, but at the same time I am looking forward to getting into my space and
getting settled. I am on-boarded, benefited and ready to get going! I have a
lot to learn in just a few weeks before the students get back, but I am feeling
strong here in Texas and I know I made an amazing choice coming here.
