Out with the 7 and in with the 8…

by Olivia Barker

I celebrated my 28th year this past Friday. While I was getting ready for work that morning, I was combing my hair and there it was…A WHITE HAIR! Mind you I have very dark brown hair and this sucker stuck out like a sore thumb.

I gracefully (read: tears streaming down my face) pulled it out, raised it to the sky and cursed it. But then, I took a second and thought about all the years that little guy was waiting to come out. A white hair means I made it through my childhood, through my teen years (I should probably apologize to my mom for years 13-19) and now, nearly through my twenties. This is blessing denied to many and I am very thankful to be alive and THRIVING! After I wiped my tears, I spent my birthday weekend with people I love doing things I love (see two highlights below).

I have an incredible family, amazing friends, a dog that makes me smile every day, a place to rest my head, food to feed my belly and I get to work in a field I love! I am excited to be taking on my late twenties and I am going to spend this year counting my blessings, not my white hairs!
