Gratitude Attitude

By Lindsay Ritenbaugh

I was recently encouraged by someone to start writing down 10 blessings each day—10 things for which I am grateful. For the past two weeks I’ve opened up my iPhone before bed and made a nightly top ten list for thanks that brought me joy for that day. Many times it’s people. Sometimes it’s food. The most exciting part is it is never exactly the same list as the day before. For a few moments each day, I get to focus on the things in my life that are positive. Some days are more of a stretch than others. Some days I get lazy and simply write something like this:

1-10. DemonTHON (although this arguably earns the spot of 1-10 on certain days)

On days when I actually take the time to reflect on the day’s events, I realize how grateful I actually am for people, places, and experiences I often take for granted. I remember how lucky I was to make my flight last Friday morning when I thought I’d be stuck in a longer than necessary TSA line. I remember how valuable my friendships are and how lucky I am to have those people in my life. I remember that even if I’m not content with the blessings I’ve chosen for that particular evening, there is always tomorrow.

What would you write today if you were to create a list of 10 things for which you are grateful?
