I seem to have the interviews on the brain as this week’s blog post ties into my post last week. For class I had to critique the mock interview process of our program. As I was writing a section about mock interview questions and which ones I was asked, I had a question. I was curious to see what others’ favorite interview questions to ask or were asked. Having been through a good amount of interviews, some questions have definitely stood out for one reason or another. Mostly they stand out for uniqueness or ones which really made me think (both in the moment of the interview or after).

With this curiosity in my head, I did what any good student affairs
graduate student or student affairs professional does when they want to their
community to weigh-in: they ask twitter. As such, last week I sent the
following tweet:
Curious to ask #sasearch as reflecting for class assignment. What is your
favorite interview question to ask or one that you've been asked?
I wanted to share the responses I received to this question:
- From @MrAbsoluteZero: "How does your office/dept define success?" Be sure to pay attention to the manner in which they respond...signals a lot.
- From @TheEllieWellie: to be asked: If you were a tree, what kind would you be and why?
- From @TheEllieWellie: as interviewee I need to know "What is the culture of no?" Need to be asked "What is your legacy?" #sasearch #SAGetAJob #SAGrad
- From @MarciKWalton: "What's a question you wish we would ask, but haven't?" *candidate responds* "Okay, now answer it."
- From @WimerAlberto: How will you measure success in this position?
Thanks for reading!
