Time to Try Something New!

So last week’s blog post I wrote about how I wanted a change. I wanted to do something that was out of my normal routine. I was looking for something that would either challenge me or give me a goal to accomplish. I asked some friends to see if they would be able to provide some insight or some suggestions. Below are some of the suggestions I received:

  • Sign up for a run! (Which might actually happen! Currently looking for 5k’s around my area and hoping to sign up for a 10k with one of my close friends. I have done 3 5k’s in the past and even though I don’t necessarily enjoy running I love the feeling of accomplishment you get when you are done. Ultimately I hope to run the Wine and Dine Half Marathon in Disney in 2015. J )
  • Take a class. (Learner is actually my #1 strength in Strengths Finder so this is a great suggestion! I do miss class. Which I know is weird to say but I’ve been out of grad school for 3 years so I’m getting itch to go back to school. A PhD is definitely in my future it’s just a matter of when. I’m going to see if there are any courses I can take either at UM or at our local community college. Also, thought about taking up a new fitness class. Might try to do spinning again or check out any new classes my gym may have.)
  • Get a new hobby. (Now this one is tough. When I think hobby I think of something like stamp collecting or knitting. Neither of which I do. I might need to figure out what my interests are and maybe take up a hobby that way.
  • Join a young professional’s network. (I thought this one was rather neat. I’m involved in committees outside of my job but never thought of looking into young professional networks. I would not even know how to go about searching for one but I figured I can give this one a try.)
I’m grateful for the suggestions I have received. It has also given me some time to catch up with friends who I haven’t spoken to in a while. I look forward to trying some of these suggestions and I hope to post about them in the future!
