Lions! Tigers! Job Searches! Oh My!

By Mairead Kiernan

Some of y’all might look at the title and think, “Who is this woman…IT’S SEPTEMBER!” You doubters are correct: it is September, but I don’t think it is ever too early to start thinking about a job search.  In March, I’ll be headed to Baltimore for The Placement Exchange (TPE), and I’ve already starting scoping out schools, creating lists of preferences, looking at regional organizations, and beefing up my résumé.

While I was sitting in my office this morning working on said résumé, I came across the link below from a former peer at Syracuse University. He didn’t work in residence life or move into student affairs after graduation, but I still found the content relevant to how we search in this field. Here’s the link:

I won’t bore you with my critiques of the slideshow because in all honesty, I quite like it! I think it’s important to keep in mind that while student affairs can be a unique field to search in, it can also be just as cutthroat as any other field. I’d love to hear what people think of the slideshow!

  1. I saw it last week and I thought it was great! I'm also looking forward to TPE but terrified at the same time.

Don't be afraid! We love to hear from our readers!
