Precious Moments

by Christopher Wood

Never underestimate the power that you have to change someone’s day. It is easy to forget that our actions can have such an impact on those around us, but they truly do. I was reminded of this today during resident move-in when I was able to help a family through an issue that they were facing.

When I first met this family, they were having an awful morning and I wanted to make sure that the student had a good first day of living at college. Through connecting the family to the right people, the problem could be solved.

I have to admit, I am someone who wears my heart on my sleeve. After we fixed the issue, with a tear in her eye, the mom said thank you and that we made her first official experience as an Ohio State parent go from less than pleasant to beyond amazing. When this happened, it caused me to get a little tear in my eye because I knew that I was a part of their experience and that I was able to help turn their day around. The parents even went to the store before leaving and bought cookies for our Senior Staff because they were so thankful.

Little moments like these I will forever cherish and remind myself when I am having a bad day at work.
