Graduation Time

by Jenni with an I

My co-hort has been posting “Congratulations!” since we have made it through a full year out of school and as professionals in Student Affairs! I’ve been all wrapped up in all that goes on at the end of the semester that it took these posts to realize it! It has been 1 year since I have graduated from my master’s program and I cannot believe it! It’s crazy how quickly time flies, especially when you are learning so much. It’s interesting to recognize this. However, the anniversary that I am going to be celebrating is my 1 year here at Austin College! That will be at the start of July. My fellow Assistant Director and I have decided that we will have to plan something to recognize this accomplishment as we have learned and gone through so much this year. For now, we are focusing on finishing this semester with my students, closing the halls, and planning for summer camps!

We have been having all kinds of awards ceremonies and dinners for all of our student leaders on campus for the past couple of weeks. It is so wonderful to have seen how much these students have grown in just the 1 year I have been here. This week is finals week and this weekend is graduation; where I will be saying good bye to some really great students!

Which brings me to another thought: my senior year, when I was a 3rd year Resident Assistant. I must say that was the year I shined the brightest as an RA and created such a great community! Well, it’s been 4 years now and they are graduating and getting their grownup jobs! I teared up a little as I congratulated them and we all got caught up on each other’s lives. I can’t wait to see how far they go! And in another 4 years, I’ll have my inaugural class of freshmen graduating from Austin College. What a weird thought… but I know it’s going to happen. I can only hope I will make a great lasting impact on them as well J Yay for graduation time!
