The life of a programmer.
April never comes as a surprise and it surely brings
showers in my experiences with this month. It’s the 9th inning,
closing ceremony, and the grand finale. For students, faculty, and
administrators it is the last push for events and programs, end of the year
assessments, reports, dinners, celebrations, meetings, etc. April is what I
call heavy. We load it all in this month because we have to, and because it is
needed.
So April brought showers. It was probably my hardest working
month as a professional in managing the load, adventures of year two, and
trying to make it to summer. A faint light at the end of the tunnel the closer
I moved toward summer the further I felt away from reaching the tunnel. You see
the truth is, I tripped along the way.
What, you may ask, was April for me? It was everything I
wrote above plus major show production, 40+ events, successes and failures,
emails, and more emails, and so much more. And now it’s May.
Like a freight train that comes to a complete stop in a
matter of seconds, May has arrived and I couldn’t feel better. To graduate
students and professionals alike, we survived. Hello summer. Here’s to
recovery, planning ahead, and sunshine.
