Gearing Up

These last few days have been so busy! The business of this semester all started with midyear training and then before I knew it, all of my residents returned from break. The first few days back with my student staff has been keeping me on my toes. So naturally I have been having a really hard time finding ways to accomplish tasks such as cleaning my apartment, grocery shopping, and sleeping. Over the last few weeks I have been working on being as forward thinking as possible because I know that this semester is just starting to get busy. In Residential Life, we are going to start reviewing RA applications, interviewing and hiring, screening and hiring RD candidates, room selection, and closing to name a few. All while trying to find time to develop and implement new initiatives in my own buildings. I have been encouraged by my boss to schedule personal time, but I am a bit nervous as to how to maintain some sort of personal life while going through some of these upcoming busy times. I have taken her advice and scheduled time off, but I often feel guilty when I am regularly unavailable to my residents due to a busy work schedule. I understand that “balance” can hardly if rarely be maintained at best, but what are some ways that you manage your time and personal life during these busy times?

I NEED YOUR HELP! What techniques do you use or have you tried in the past to find balance during the “busy” season?
