Summer Fever

A few weeks ago, I dreamt we had already started student staff training. I woke up in quite the tizzy. With summer barely beginning, I was not ready for it to be over.

Now that I have had a bit of time to allow summer fever to run its course, the countdown until student staff arrive may commence. I have about two weeks. And we have a month until Opening Day for our residence halls.

I am not sure how it happens, but summer always flies by at an extraordinary rate. I guess time flies when you are having fun. But I am not ready for the summer fun to end. My summer to-do list is still long.

Here are a few of the things I would like a accomplish before my students arrive for training!:
  • Climb a 14er (that’s a mountain over 14,000 feet) – it’s less daunting when you are already starting with at least 6,000 under your belt.
  • Attend Jazz in the Park in Denver. This has been on my to-do list since last summer.
  • Go tubing down Clear Creek, the local river. Sun tan lotion here I come.
  • Ride my bike up the M-Mountain – about 2.5 miles to the big Mines M.
  • Run up South Table Top – which is only about a 30-minute hike.
  • Paint something at Art on the Brix (http://www.artonthebrix.com/) – a local venue where they teach you how to paint.
  • Make more ice cream using my new nifty ice cream maker! Because who doesn’t love ice cream during the summer?
I have seen many tweets, Facebook posts, and blogs about the commencement of professional staff training, at least for my colleagues in Housing/Residence Life. May you find some time to finish off your summer to do lists with gusto and fun!
