Wear Sunscreen

I’m not going to lie- I wasn’t sure what to write this week. I have so many different things I want to write about, but every time I sat down to express them, I had a hard time producing something that I was truly proud of. My mind was full of items from my To Do lists, and things I needed to remind my staff about, and all many other nitpicky things that came across my mind. But the one thing I kept thinking about was last weekend.

This past weekend my sister came down to southern New Mexico to visit. She had never been here before, and just as she always seems to do, she came at just the right time. It never ceases to amaze me how refreshing it can be to spend time with those you love the most, especially when you don’t see them enough. As I’m sure it is for many of you, this month is about to get a little crazier than it already is. But being able to sit back and just relax with my best friend was just what I needed to put the hiccups of the last few weeks behind me and move forward with the end of the semester.

While at dinner with some of my coworkers last weekend, some people started talking about the song below. I had never heard it before- I know, I know. But I told myself that night that I would listen to it when I got home. Well, my sister and I decided to have some adventures after dinner and it slipped my mind. A few days later, a dear friend from grad school posted this video to her Facebook. It was as though she knew I needed a reminder of how wonderful life truly is after being slammed with a manic Monday. I just sat in my office and listened to the lyrics of this song. It’s so amazing how true the message of this song is. It starts out with a basic concept- Wear Sunscreen- one that my sister did not take advantage of this weekend. But that’s another story.

I fully encourage you to just stop whatever you are working on and just listen. Listen to some of the messages in this song.. Maybe it’s just me, but sometimes I need that time of reflection to really put everything in perspective of how great things really are. We all woke up this morning. That in itself is a pretty good thing, right? I hope that listening to this song can help your Thursday and make your day a little better. And if not, then hopefully a YouTube about a sloth and Kristen Bell can make you smile?

Have a beautiful day!
