Finding the Right Words to Say Goodbye …

As the school year is coming to an end, I have found myself reflecting on the experiences that I have had in the past year. I am very lucky to have been given the opportunity to work with such amazing students and colleagues in this first professional position. I have enjoyed he experiences that I have had at this institution a lot and have taken away so much after just one year.

This year, I have transitioned from graduate school to my first professional position. My staff members have been very understanding and patient as I have adjusted to my role and I have learned so much, from balance, to patience, and everything in between. Nevertheless, I have enjoyed this last year more than I could have expected, which makes saying goodbye to those students that I have gotten to know over the past year that much harder. Two weeks ago today, I accepted an amazing position at my undergraduate institution, Lewis University, to serve as the Alumni Relations Coordinator beginning June 4. I am very excited about this next chapter of my professional life and the opportunity to continue to grow.

That being said, saying goodbye is not easy. Even though I will still be here for six more weeks, I have found it difficult having to say goodbye to those students that have helped to further develop my professional skills.
