I know what is probably running through your mind- "There's no 'I' in team!" But in my opinion, there is. A team is made up of individuals. We all come together to see to it that a job gets done, and it gets done right. In Student Affairs, it's all about teamwork.

Our office recently hired five new Admission Coordinators. Yes, you read this correctly- I said FIVE. Each candidate went through the same application and interview process. I had the pleasure of serving on this search committee. Now did I think every candidate would be a good fit? To be honest, no. Did I have a few shining stars I was pulling for? Definitely.

When the weight of hiring new staff members is on your shoulders, you have to look at the bigger picture. Look at who will become a leader and who will lend a helping hand. How did they interact with you in their interview? Was the candidate just feeding you lines so you would hire them? What is each individual really going to be like when they enter the office? How will they represent our institution when out on the road talking to prospective students and their families?

All of these are questions and concerns are faced when bringing in new staff members. We think about all the past situations we'd had with students and their families along with the events and tasks that are done on a daily basis. None of these things can be accomplished alone. I'm the type of person where if I don't know the answer to a question, I will not stop searching until I find it. Some call it stubborn while I call it dedication :)

Today brings a new wave of faces and ideas into our office. Some of them are alumni of our school, others are from different states entirely like I was. They are all coming here for a reason- to build and enhance our team. I am looking forward to the future of my office and can't wait to see these individuals I helped to select in action!
